Saina Nehwal

Saina Nehwal born on March 17, 1990 in the city of Hisar in Haryana, India. Her father Dr. harvinder Singh, Scientist at the Oilseed Research Centre, Hyderabad and here Mother Usha Nehwal, both were badminton champions in Haryana, tempted her to raise to this level.

In 2006, she appeared in the global scene, when she became the first Indian Women to win the 4 star Badminton Tournament at the Phillipines Open. She also became the first Indian Women to reach the quarter finals of the Olympic games by upsetting the World's Number 5 & 4 seeded Wang Chen of Hongkong in a thriller match.

On December 19, 2008 shrugged off her opening match disappointment to become the first Indian Shuttler to reach the semi-finals of the World Super Series Tournament in Kuala lampur.

On 21st June 2009, She has won the Indonesian Open Super Series.

Indian ace shuttler Saina Nehwal beat China's world number three Wang Lin to become the first Indian to win a super series badminton tournament with victory in the Indonesian Open Sunday.

Nehwal took the women's singles crown by beating Wang 12-21, 21-18, 21-9 to take the title and the 18,750 dollar prize.
